FLOODWATERS cut off roads and left one driver stranded after heavy rains of up to 45 millimetres drenched parts of Central Australia over the weekend.
A heavy deluge saw river systems break their banks in and around Alice Springs on Saturday including the Todd River and Ellery Creek.
Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Billy Lynch said Bond Spring Turnoff recorded 45mm of rain, Wigley Gorge had 44mm and Schwarz Crescent had 32mm.

Hermannsburg resident Nick Ortyan said motorists were cut off from crossing Ellery Creek, 12km east of Hermannsburg after its water height reached dangerously high levels.
“I’ve never seen it so full; I don’t think it’s flooded like this in at least five years,” he said.
Police said a vehicle got caught in floodwaters at Ellery Creek after a 59-year-old man tried to cross on Saturday.

While the man managed to make it to safety, police warn motorists not to enter flooded roadways.
