NT Police Association president Paul McCue said a lack of exit interviews left the executive in the dark over why cops were choosing to resign.

“Unfortunately, the department does not have an exit interview system, so we don’t have an accurate picture on why police are leaving the force,” he said.

NT Police Assistant Commissioner Michael White said cops complete a questionnaire upon leaving and were encouraged to speak with their manager.

“The police executive is intent on building a force that is professional and displays a culture the community can be proud of,” Mr White said.

Police, Fire and Emergency Services Minister Nicole Manison said there were about 100 more cops on the beat than this time last year.

“But there is no doubt policing is tough, and we continue to work closely with the NTPA and police executive to ensure our force is receiving the support they need,” she said.
