A DARWIN man has walked free from jail after pleading guilty to punching a security guard in the face and then brandishing a knife while standing on the bonnet of his car at the Parap Tavern.

The court heard Cations went to the Parap Tavern at about 6pm on June 28 this year, where he consumed a large amount of alcohol and then three lines of cocaine in the venue’s toilets.
At about 8.30pm a fight broke out between Cations and another man, with Cations throwing a glass at him.
When a security guard from the tavern tried to intervene and placed himself between the two men, Cations punched the guard in the chin while trying to punch the other man.
According to the statement of agreed facts tendered in court, Cations then walked out to the carpark, calling the other man to come and “engage in a fight”.
After another brawl, Cations was driven by his friend to the carpark of an apartment block directly behind the Parap Tavern.
Cations then armed himself with a large kitchen knife, stood on the bonnet of the car and leaned over the fence, continuing to fight with the same man.
He then threw the knife over the fence.
Cations was arrested a few days later.

Cations’ lawyer Shane McMaster told the court his client had not intended to punch the security guard in the face and that he was hoping to get his life back on track after battling substance addiction.
“He has great support and every motivation to keep his nose clean going forward,” Mr McMaster said.
Cations was sentenced to several more months in prison – suspended from Friday – allowing him to walk free.
