Man charged with deprivation of liberty and assault of partner in Alice Springs

A 25-YEAR-old man who allegedly assaulted his partner and deprived her of her liberty has been charged by police.

NT Police have arrested and charged a man in Alice Springs with offences related to domestic violence.

A 25-YEAR-old man who allegedly assaulted his partner and deprived her of her liberty has been charged by Alice Springs police.

Police allege the man broke into a home in Braitling and physically assaulted two women aged 20 and 31 at 4am on Wednesday.

Police also allege the 20-year-old woman – his partner – was taken to another location and further physically assaulted by the man, before he fled the area.

The woman suffered non-life threatening injuries and presented to the Alice Springs Hospital for treatment.

The man was found and arrested on Larapinta Dr and was taken to the Alice Springs Watch House.

He has been charged with aggravated assault, deprivation of liberty, aggravated unlawful entry and criminal damage.

He has been remanded in custody to appear before court at a later date.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Carmen Butcher urged victims of domestic violence to reach out and report matters.

“Domestic violence, regardless of the severity, is never OK,” said A/Snr Sgt Butcher said.

“Please, if you are a victim or you know of someone who is a victim of domestic violence, please report it to police so we can provide the appropriate supports to the victim and stop further incidents of harm.”
