A 36-YEAR-OLD man has been arrested and charged after allegedly sexually assaulting a woman inside her own home.

NT Police allege the man assaulted a 44-year-old woman inside her home in Katherine, while she was sleeping, sometime between 3pm and 4pm on Saturday.

During the alleged assault the woman woke up, struggled against the man and managed to flee.

Yesterday police arrested the man, who is known to the woman.

He has been charged with one count of sexual intercourse without consent.

He has been remanded and is due to appear in Katherine Local Court today.
