POLICE are calling for witnesses after a man allegedly posed as a police officer to steal another man’s wallet on the Stuart Hwy in Ludmilla overnight.
An NT Police spokeswoman said the 57-year-old victim was signalled to pull over by a man in a white Toyota HiLux between Ross Smith Avenue and Bagot Road at about 3am on Monday
The driver of the HiLux approached the other man saying he was a police officer and asking to see his licence but the man was unable to identify him as he was blinded by the spotlights on the other vehicle’s roof.
When the victim showed the man his driver’s licence the other man allegedly grabbed his wallet and ran back to the HiLux and fled the scene.
Serious Crime Squad detectives are investigating the matter which attracts a maximum three-month jail term under the Police Administration Act.
