Kumanjayi Walker’s family raise claim against NT Police with human rights commission

THE family of Kumanjayi Walker have raised a claim against NT Police with the Australian Human Rights Commission alleging discriminatory conduct.

THE family of Kumanjayi Walker have raised a claim against NT Police with the Australian Human Rights Commission alleging discriminatory conduct.

The Department of the Attorney-General and Justice’s annual report shows solicitors from its litigation division acted for the NT Police in a number of significant claims over the last financial year.

They acted for NT Police in a claim made on behalf of the family of Kumanjayi Walker and the Yuendumu community.

The complaint has been raised against Constable Zachary Rolfe, NT Police and the Territory in the Australian Human Rights Commission alleging discriminatory conduct under the Racial Discrimination Act 1975 (Cth).

It will be heard pending the resolution of a criminal charge against Constable Rolfe.
