NT Police Commissioner Jamie Chalker has welcomed the government’s $40 million budget boost for police, saying it will take some of the pressure off their thinly stretched resources.
The boost is a part of the $488.4m allocation for Police Fire and Emergency Services announced in Chief Minister and Treasurer Michael Gunner’s 2021-22 budget on Tuesday.
Commissioner Chalker said the last year had been difficult for the NT’s emergency services because of the unforeseen impacts on its resources of COVID-19.
