Investigation launched into ‘explosion’, fire at The Leprechaun Motel at Winnellie
Police are investigating the cause of a ‘loud explosion’ and fire at a well-known Darwin motel overnight.

A CRIME scene has been set up as police investigate the cause of a fire which destroyed an industrial shed at the Leprechaun Motel in Winnellie overnight.
Southern Watch Commander Mick Sields said police and fire emergency crews were called just before 7pm on Monday with a report of a loud explosion and fire at the property on the Stuart Hwy.
People at the scene self evacuated after hearing sounds of explosions.
“Crews attended and found the fire in a large industrial shed behind the BP service station at Sadgroves Cres,” he said.
“Fire crews extinguished the fire but significant damage was done to the structure and property inside.
“A crime scene has been established with crews to continue investigations today.”
