ONE of the inmates involved in a riot at the Darwin Correctional Centre has pleaded guilty after a ten-month wait on remand.
Kieran Webster, 22, appeared in the Darwin Local Court on Wednesday via video from the prison and pleaded guilty to one count of damaging property while riotously assembled and escaping lawful custody during the riot on May 13 last year.
He is one of 21 men charged over the riots, and one of the first to enter a plea after ten months of the matters being dragged through the courts.
Other charges, including arson, were withdrawn by the prosecution.
Webster has also been committed to plead to the charges in the Supreme Court, but it is understood he pleaded at the earliest possible opportunity for the benefit of his sentencing outcome.
