HIKERS are being urged to take precautions when walking in the Northern Territory by the Department of Environment, Parks and Water Safety, after Victorian man Daymon Ness went missing in Nitmiluk National Park last week.
Mr Ness dramatically disappeared from Nitmiluk on Tuesday October 20, sparking a wide search over five days with ground crews, drones, helicopters and planes.
The search has since been called off.
A spokesman for the Department of Environment, Parks and Water Security said it was important to take safety seriously in the NT.
“Even if you are an experienced walker, you must take precautions when visiting Territory parks,” the spokesman said.
“Walking in hot weather can result in heat exhaustion, which may progress to a potentially fatal heatstroke.
“Avoid strenuous activity during the hottest part of the day.”
