Four teens identified in relation to series of suspicious playground fires

FOUR teenagers have been spoken to by police after an investigation by Strike Force Trident into the suspicious fires that burnt down several playgrounds in Palmerston.

The fires were lit on August 4 and 5 with the first occurring around 3pm at Hobart Park, Johnston.

Later that night at 10.20pm, police were called to Joan Fejo Park in Rosebery.

That fire was also extinguished by fire fighters but the playground was extensively damaged.

Then at 11.20pm, police received another report of a fire at George Park.

Fire and Rescue units attended and extinguished a fire that engulfed the playground.

The equipment was completely destroyed.

Then on Wednesday, August 5, at 12.30am, police were called to a scrub fire at George Park, which was quickly put out.

The four youths, three boys aged 13 and one boys aged 14, have been interviewed in relation to the fires and will be dealt with under the Youth Justice Act 2005.
