“If people heed looking after their safety … you are less likely to have any serious injuries,” Sen Sgt Furniss said.

“In these incidents each one had the potential for someone to die and it’s fortunate that no lives were lost.”

The first crash involved a 26-year-old woman whose car rolled several times.

As a result of the crash, which was near Elliot, the woman received an open fracture to her arm.

At 1.30pm a man in his 60s and a woman aged 82, who were in a car towing a caravan on the Barkly Hwy about 50km west of the Barkly Homestead, lost traction on the road and rolled their vehicle several times.

The man sustained a broken arm while the woman has been taken to Mt Isa for treatment to serious head injuries.

Sen Sgt Furniss said at 11.30pm six people were in a Ford sedan driving down Smith St in the Alice Springs CBD when the car rolled multiple times.

Sen Sgt said it appeared the car was travelling at speed at the time of the crash.

Two women were thrown from the car and are being treated for spinal injuries while the driver was stuck behind the wheel with minor injuries.

Fifteen minutes later at 11.45pm cops were called to a rollover of a Holden station wagon on the Finke Rd about 50km from Kulgera.

The driver was not injured in the crash but a man, who was thrown from the car, has serious pelvic injuries while a 70-year-old man was found stuck in the car.

“The 70-year-old was found in the car. He looked like he was in a serious condition but once they got him out he appeared to improve,” Sen Sgt Furniss said.
