Driver charged over fiery fatal crash near Katherine

A 48-YEAR-OLD male driver has been charged in relation to a fatal single-vehicle crash that killed a 38-year-old woman on Friday.

A 48-YEAR-OLD male driver has been charged in relation to a fatal single-vehicle crash that killed a 38-year-old woman near Katherine on Friday.

Police say passers-by saved the lives of two people, but a third tragically died, after the car they were travelling in rolled, hit a tree and burst into flames on the Stuart Hwy about 40km south of Katherine on Friday night.

The man, along with a 48-year-old female passenger who survived, were taken to Katherine Hospital after the crash.

He has been charged with drive motor vehicle cause death and breach of domestic violence order.

He was remanded in custody and is due to appear in Katherine Local Court tomorrow morning.
