A FATHER who was unexpectedly arrested outside a Darwin courthouse after turning up to support his son who is on remand, has refused to appear in court and withdrawn his application for bail.

Karl Dieter Gruber, 50, was due to apply for bail in the Darwin Local Court on Friday but his lawyer Clancy Dane told the court his client “requested not to appear”.

Mr Dane said Gruber also asked to withdraw his bail application.

It comes after Gruber told Mr Dane to “stick” the bail application “up his arse” and said “f**** coming back” when Judge Greg Cavanagh adjourned the matter on Thursday.

Gruber stands charged with breaching a DVO and assaulting police. He was arrested and bundled into a waiting police car as he walked out of the Darwin Local Court where he went to support his son Karl Gruber Jr on Tuesday.

The court heard on Thursday Gruber allegedly spat blood at a police officer in the watch house on Wednesday night.

The NT News understands Gruber Sr breached a DVO by attending court with his son’s mother.
