CRACKDOWN: NT Police conducting Easter road safety blitz on Territory roads

Territory cops are out in force over the Easter long weekend, promising to be patrolling every corner of the NT’s roads, and carrying out a blitz on drink and drug driving.

What is Easter all about?

NT POLICE are staging a RBT blitz on Territory roads over the weekend, in a bid to crack down on high rates of drink and drug driving over Easter.

Acting sergeant Darryl Slater said drivers across the NT could also expect to be pulled over for driving unregistered or unroadworthy vehicles.

“There will be large scale RBT and drug testing operations carried out throughout the territory over the entire Easter period,” Sgt Slater said.

“It’ll be rural, remote, urban, including island communities and bush stations, so there will be a Territory police presence visible on the roads over the entire Easter period,” he said.

Sgt Slater said more people generally travelled over Easter for camping and holidays, and the push would encourage motorists to “stay sober and stay safe.”

HOT NEW DEAL: Read everything for 28 days for just $1

He said two drunk drivers had already been pinged drink driving within an hour of setting up an RBT at McMillans Road, Berrimah.
