COUNTRY Liberal Party candidate for Arafura Gibson Farmer Illortaminni will not face justice on a drink-drink driving charge until after the August 22 election.

During a brief mention of the case in the Darwin Local Court today, his lawyer, Sephyr Cooper, was granted an adjournment on the mid-range drink-driving charge until August 25.

Farmer was allegedly caught behind the wheel on Dick Ward Dr with a blood-alcohol reading of 0.108 at 6.45pm on June 7.

At the time, Farmer said he “may have made a mistake” and “thought he was OK” to drive.

“I may have made a mistake on how much alcohol I had to drink, I thought I was OK and I’m getting legal advice,” he said.

“It goes to show that you can never be too cautious when it comes to drinking and driving.”

Despite the incident, Opposition Leader Lia Finocchiaro said Farmer would still stand as a candidate for the CLP in the August election.

“Gibson Farmer is very remorseful of his actions — we all know the dangers of drink-driving,” she said.
