A six-year-old girl was taken to hospital at the weekend after she was stung by a box jellyfish while swimming at a beach near Nhulunbuy.

The sting occurred at Ski Beach, about 25km from the Gove Airport on Saturday afternoon.

On ABC St John Ambulance’s Craig Garraway said the girl was doing OK despite of the painful sting.

“She’s doing okay, that’s the main thing,” he said.

He said he was unsure if the child had been released from hospital, but guessed she may have by now.
