A BOMB threat at a Top End hospital sparked emergency procedures and a large-scale search of the grounds overnight.

At 7.17pm last night, an unknown man, believed to be a former patient of Katherine Regional Hospital, made a number of calls to the hospital reception.

NT Police Northern Watch Commander Senior Sergeant Sonia Kennon said during one of the calls, the man made a bomb threat to the hospital.

“The threat was treated seriously by both the Katherine Regional Hospital and Northern Territory Police and emergency procedures were initiated,” she said.

Sen Sgt Kennon said authorities had then searched the grounds, before declaring the area safe about 11pm last night.

She said investigations were continuing.

“There are a few more avenues of inquiry available to police which will hopefully identify the caller, (and) these will be reviewed by crime members,” she said.
