AN ALLEGED teenage serial arsonist accused of burning out a car and dealing marijuana will be committed to stand trial in the Supreme Court.

Sakelaris Amorginos, 19, appeared in the dock of Darwin Local Court wearing a prison jumper on Thursday.

The 19-year-old, who the court heard was already on bail for previous arson offences, was arrested and jailed on January 2.

Amorginos stands charged with a raft of offences, including arson, damage to property, stealing, supplying less than a commercial quantity of a schedule two drug, administering a dangerous drug to self, possessing a prohibited weapon and breach of bail.

Amorginos is accused of setting fire to a car at East Point Reserve, Fannie Bay, and then stealing one of its wheels on January 1.

According to NT police, the car was engulfed in flames by the time officers arrived at the scene and was subsequently destroyed.

No one was injured in the blaze.

Police searched a property in Driver the following day and allegedly found a number of items including 152 grams of cannabis, a laser torch, digital scales and an ice pipe.

Amorginos was arrested following the search and has been remanded in custody since.

The court heard that the 19-year-old was already on bail for three counts of using fire or an explosive substance to cause damage to a building after being charged in December.

Amorginos’s lawyer Peter Maley told the court that the bail application he had intended to make on his client’s behalf had hit a snag, as Amorginos did not have a suitable address to reside at while on bail.

He also said his client chose to exercise his right not to give evidence.

Amorginos will return to court next month for his case to be handed up to the Supreme Court.

No application for bail was made.
