AN ALLEGED drunk driver has been arrested after crashing a car while prohibited from driving a car without an interlock.

Northern Watch Commander Bruce Payne said the man crashed his car, with two passengers on board, in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

“At 4.26am this morning police responded to a single vehicle accident in the Stuart Hwy in Winnellie,” he said.

“A vehicle has collided with a light pole and rolled over,” Snr Sgt Payne said.

“The three occupants of the vehicle were able to get out without assistance. The occupants received only minor injuries.”

Snr Sgt Payne said police were already aware of the man prior to the crash.

“The driver of the vehicle had two outstanding warrants, is believed to be intoxicated and has conditions that he is not to drive a vehicle unless it has an alcohol ignition on it,” he said.

“This vehicle did not. The driver has been arrested.”
