A MAN accused of a string of historical child sexual offences on the Tiwi Islands in the 1990s has been again released on bail after allegedly approaching one of his now adult victims at the Karama Tavern.

The 66-year-old, who cannot be named under NT law, faced the Darwin Local Court on Wednesday after he was arrested and charged with multiple offences including rape and deprivation of liberty before being granted bail.

His lawyer, Shane McMaster, told the court the man had gone to the tavern to play the pokies when one of the women happened to turn up.

He said CCTV footage captured the man going out into the carpark where the woman had headed but he was just making sure she had already left so he could also leave without breaching his bail conditions.

“He was making sure it was all clear because he knew it was a condition of his bail that he can’t approach her,” he said.

In granting bail, judge Elisabeth Armitage said if it happened again he would likely remain behind bars.

“Sir you are on bail to have no contact whatsoever with any of these complainants,” she said.

“If you see them, you don’t walk in the direction of them to make sure the path is clear, you walk in the opposite direction.”
