A MAN charged over the death of a 53-year-old man in Darwin River on Saturday night has faced court for the first time.
Robert Thomas Redfern, 54, appeared in the Darwin Local Court on Tuesday where he is facing one count of manslaughter.
Police allege the pair were known to each other and became involved in a number of physical altercations before a final assault that left the younger man unresponsive.

Despite emergency services attending the scene and performing CPR the man could not be revived.
Redfern did not apply for bail and will return to court on June 16.
