A 20-year-old man has been charged over an alleged serious assault.

A MAN has been charged over the alleged serious assault on a young woman and a baby in the Victoria Daly region.

According to police, the 19-year-old woman was holding the three-month-old girl when they were both assaulted by a 20-year-old man about 5.30pm on Tuesday.

The baby suffered serious injuries and the woman minor injuries.

Both were transported to Darwin for medical treatment at around 1am.

The 20-year-old was charged with unlawfully cause serious harm and aggravated assault.

He will appear in Katherine Local Court tomorrow.
