A Top End man has woken up to find his favourite pair of ‘going out thongs’ brazenly stolen by a Speedo-clad thief.

Zuccoli man Robert Campbell woke to find the thongs missing on Sunday morning and checked his security cameras to find the culprit.

The CCTV footage revealed the man wearing bather bottoms, which were initially mistaken as a G-string, had strolled up to Mr Campbell’s property, slid on the thongs and walked away with his female accomplice.

“My going out thongs are the ones I keep clean and home thongs are for the garden,’’ Mr Campbell said.

The man allegedly slid on the thongs and walked away with them in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Neighbours convinced Mr Campbell to post the video in their Zuccoli community Facebook group, which garnered plenty of reaction.

The alleged offender was labelled “the g-banging thief’’ by members.

But there was a sweet twist to the story by Monday morning, after Mr Campbell received a message from the remorseful culprit.

The man confessed to the crime and offered to give him money to replace the thongs.

Mr Campbell said he was thankful for the confession but told him not to worry about it.

“At the end of the day, they’re just thongs,’’ he said.

Mr Campbell said he had purchased a new pair of going out thongs and won’t be leaving them outside any time soon.
