A bloodied mall cop was forced to perform first aid on himself after allegedly being attacked by a knife-wielding teen.

Tyrone Dhatangu Pascoe, 18, appeared in Darwin Local Court on Monday charged for allegedly slashing the security guard with a knife on Friday, November 25.

Police have previously said officers were called to the Karama Shopping Plaza at 1.30pm after reports of a serious assault.

It was alleged the 18-year-old attacked the guard with a knife, repeatedly cutting the worker until other security guards jumped in to help.

Police alleged the bleeding guard administered first aid to himself before travelling to Royal Darwin Hospital for treatment.

The young man was taken under police guard to Royal Darwin Hospital with minor injuries.

Pascoe appeared before Judge John Neill on Monday charged with recklessly endangering serious harm, aggravated assault, and assaulting a worker.

Prosecutors indicated they would fight to move the 18-year-old’s charges to the Supreme Court.

The court heard the young man had family in Maningrida, and was planning on making a bail application at his next court appearance on Thursday, December 1.
