Police dog bites child as youths target aircraft hangar

A child is being treated for a police dog bite and investigations are under way after a group of youths allegedly broke into a police aircraft hangar in Alice Springs.

It was alleged two cars with an unknown number of young people were captured on CCTV arriving at the hangar on Friday night.

Southern Division Watch Commander Rod Hayman said the alleged offenders fled the scene before officers arrived.

He said that later two youths believed to be part of the group were taken into custody, one of them requiring treatment for a bite from a police dog.

“We’ve got a pretty good description of them from our CCTV camera at the police air wing hangar,” he said.

“In addition we believe they’re responsible for a number of other (alleged) break-ins in town that night.”
