At 4pm Friday, the two St John Ambulance paramedics were flagged down to assist an injured person at the intersection of Rothdale Rd and Sawyer St. While providing treatment, a different woman approached and pulled off their personal protective equipment before attacking them.

The paramedics suffered scratches and bruises, with enquiries now underway to identify and find the woman. Watch Commander Kaye Pemberton said assaulting emergency workers was completely unacceptable.

United Workers Union NT secretary Erina Early said attacks on workers needed to stop. “Assaulting paramedics and patient transport officers is not acceptable for any reason,” she said. “This needs to stop as every paramedic that is injured is one less paramedic here to help you, your family or friends.

Vanderlin Dr, Lee Point Rd graffiti clean up to begin

THE SCRIBBLES and scrawls across Darwin’s major roads will be removed as part of a $1.73 million graffiti removal project.

Over 70 properties in Darwin’s northern suburbs are set to have graffiti removed under a new NT Government and City of Darwin initiative.

The vandalism removal campaign will target fences on two of Darwin’s busiest suburban commuter roads – Vanderlin Drive and Lee Point Road.

Nineteen properties on Vanderlin Drive and 56 properties on Lee Point Road have been identified, with works to begin in February.

The treatments will include painting over graffiti and replacing shade cloth where applicable.

Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics Minister Eva Lawler said the project would “revitalise” the two roads.

She said the funding agreement with the council also included new female change rooms at Malak Oval and electronic speed check signs at a number of Darwin schools.

City of Darwin Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis said it was time for the “eyesores” to be removed from the busy roads.

“City of Darwin has major plans for this area … and this clean-up is part of our overall strategy to improve community infrastructure and beautify our streets,” Mr Vatskalis said.

Wanguri MP Nicole Manison said she was pleased to see the graffiti removed from her electorate.

“It’s so important that we have a well-presented community for everyone to enjoy and getting rid of this graffiti will deliver a great improvement,” Ms Manison said.

Good neighbour in Outback Territory reports break-in

TENNANT CREEK had two break-ins reported in the last 24-period and Alice Springs had another ute stolen from a home.

Southern Watch Commander Allan Milner said a home on Whippet St in Tennant Creek was reported after a neighbour had noticed a door left open.

“The neighbour got in contact with us and so we’ve done the right thing and got in contact with the victim,” Cmdr Milner said.

He said it appeared the offenders were able to enter the house by dislodging a board covering a larger window from a previous break-in, then climbed through the empty frame – between Friday morning and Saturday afternoon.

“So we don’t know (what was stolen), they will have to be there to give us an update on what property was taken,” Cmdr Milner said.

A home on Ambrose St in Tennant Creek was broken into between 9.20pm and 9pm on Saturday.

“The point of entry was a small window which was forced open, so they removed the flyscreen and forced the window open without breaking it and the stolen was a credit card only,” Cmdr Milner said.

Sgt Millner said he did not have the information on whether the card had theft transactions recorded.

A Holden Commodore ute with an NT rego number RAYZ UTE was stolen from an Alice Springs home on Engoordina Dr in Larapinta between Friday night and Saturday morning.

“The good thing about the stolen motor vehicle was it was later recovered within the area with no damage,” Cmdr Milner said.

“We’re still awaiting forensic results.”
