A woman accused of leaking Territory corruption watchdog information is expected to enter a plea of guilty after she was charged over an alleged violation of the Independent Commissioner Against Corruption Act.

Kate Tayla Johnson, 23, has been charged with disclosing confidential information and disclosing information “obtained in the course of performing a function”.

Police have previously alleged that the 23-year-old’s phone was seized by the Special References Unit on June 3.

The search warrant was in response to a referral from the office of the Independent Commissioner Against Corruption Michael Riches.

Johnson’s lawyer Julie Franz appeared on the young woman’s behalf in a Darwin Local Court hearing on Monday.

Ms Franz said Johnson intended to make a plea to the “lesser charge” of breaching the ICAC Act by disclosing information.

The charge carries a maximum penalty of two years in prison if found guilty.

Ms Franz said she was negotiating with prosecutors to drop the criminal charge of disclosing confidential information, which attracts a maximum penalty of five years.

Johnson will return to court on September 26 where she is expected to make a guilty plea to disclosing information.
