Timothy Hunt returns to court charged with murder in Tony Rowe disappearance

A man accused of murdering missing Darwin man Tony Rowe has again faced court after prosecutors prepared a ‘very large brief’ of evidence against him.

Tony Rowe was last seen at the Hibiscus Tavern in May last year.

A man charged with the murder of missing Darwin man Tony Rowe has returned to court after prosecutors served a “very large brief” of evidence on his lawyers.

Timothy Hunt, 29, was extradited from Queensland in May charged with committing a violent act that caused Mr Rowe’s death some time after he went missing almost exactly a year earlier.

The charge was later upgraded to murder after police said they found Mr Rowe’s remains in an “isolated area south of Darwin”.

On Wednesday, prosecutor Damien Jones successfully applied to have the case adjourned for another eight weeks.

“Obviously this involves an allegation in relation to the murder of Mr Tony Rowe,” he said.

“A substantial brief of evidence was only recently served as of yesterday, it involves not just Mr Hunt but others, it is a very large brief.

“There is no opposition to an adjournment for eight weeks.”

In May, acting Deputy Commissioner Michael White White said police understood Hunt “may have been with him at the time” Mr Rowe was seen drinking at the Hibiscus Tavern before “there was some sort of altercation”.

“He was with a group of people at a local establishment drinking and that was the last time he was seen,” he said.

“We knew the persons of interest had travelled interstate so we’ve worked very closely with our colleagues in Queensland and Western Australia.”

On Wednesday, Judge Alan Woodcock remanded Hunt in custody and adjourned the hearing until September 13 for a preliminary examination mention.
