Man to appear in court after stealing more 35 bonsai pots

A 45-year-old man has been summoned to court after he allegedly stole more than 30 bonsai plants from a plant nursery.

A 45-YEAR-OLD man has been issued with a notice to appear after he allegedly stole more than 30 bonsai plants from a plant nursery.

It is alleged the man unlawfully entered a plant nursery on Alphatonia Rd, Lambells Lagoon during the early hours of July 1.

Police investigated the matter and executed a search warrant after identifying the offender.

During the search of his home police found 36 pots containing assorted bonsai plants and two bare rooted plants.

The plants were seized and taken to the Humpty Doo Police Station, where the owner was able to recover them.

The 45-year-old was issued with a notice to appear or stealing and trespassing on an enclosed premises.

He will appear in Darwin Local Court on September 14.

Cops investigating Alice Springs assault

NT Police are investigating an Alice Springs assault that left a 49-year-old man with head injuries requiring hospital treatment.

The man was at a food outlet on Todd St, in the company of another man and a woman, when an altercation broke out between the two men.

The 49-year-old allegedly attempted to punch the other man, who punched back in response.

The first man was knocked to the ground by the punch causing head injuries that are not considered serious.

The other man and the woman fled the scene on foot.

“Police have reviewed CCTV footage and investigations are ongoing to apprehend the offender,” Detective Senior Sergeant Michael Schumacher said.

Cops arrest two young boys after alleged scissor wielding bike theft

POLICE have arrested two children who allegedly threatened another boy with scissors before stealing a fourth child’s bike in Woodroffe on Wednesday.

Detective Senior Sergeant Brett Cottier said the boys, aged 10 and 11, had approached a nine-year-old boy who was riding his bike on Woodroffe Ave just after 3:30pm.

“The older boys allegedly threatened him with a pair of scissors and attempted to steal his bike,” he said.

“The victim tried to defend himself and his bike, and received several superficial cuts in the process.

“Another child came to his assistance and the (alleged) offenders took the opportunity to (allegedly) steal that boy’s bike before fleeing.”

Detectives from Serious Crime arrested the older boys on Thursday and they are assisting police with their inquiries.

Plea for information after man grabs teen on trail

A man exposed his genitals and grabbed a teenage woman on her afternoon run, with police now deploying drones and dogs to track down the offender.

The incident happened on Alice Springs’ Eastside Trail on Wednesday afternoon.

The woman was running towards Telegraph Station from Gosse St when the man confronted her about 5.30pm.

After being grabbed, the woman broke free and ran for help.

The man then left the scene with the teenager’s mobile phone.

He is described as an Indigenous man in either his late teens or early 20s.

Police said he was wearing a black hoodie with white writing and dark shorts.

Detective Sergeant Janice Kershaw said police were using drones and the canine unit to identify and track down the offender.

“This was a very distressing experience for the young woman,” Det Seg Kershaw said.

Brolly bandit pops up in Darwin

4PM TUES: POLICE allege a brolly battler brandished an umbrella to rob a business at a popular Darwin shopping centre.

NT Police confirmed a 23-year-old man had been arrested over an alleged robbery at Casuarina Square on Tuesday.

Police said they received reports at 10.30am that the man was using an umbrella to threaten staff and rob a business within the shopping complex.

It was alleged shopping centre security intervened and the man fled the scene, taking with him a small quantity of cash.

Serious Crime detectives arrested him a short time later in Marrara.

Detective Senior Sergeant Brett Cottier said the 23-year-old man was expected to be charged with one count of aggravated robbery.

“This individual has caused a significant amount of stress to employees and shoppers,” Sgt. Cottier said.

“We would like to commend the members of the public who contacted police which allowed us to apprehend this individual quickly.”

Teen charged over multiple break-ins across Darwin

JULY 5: A TEENAGE boy has been charged with 21 offences over a series of alleged unlawful entries across Greater Darwin.

And police have warned the public older vehicles are increasingly being targeted by offenders, urging owners to park them in secure locations.

NT Police said the 17-year-old was involved in unlawful entries involving stolen vehicles in seven Darwin suburbs: Howard Springs, Casuarina, Palmerston, Tiwi, Winnellie, Pinelands and Coconut Grove.

The alleged offending happened between June 18 and July 4.

He was arrested on Monday by Strike Force Trident and the dog squad and was remanded in custody. He was due to appear in court on Tuesday.

Police charged the teen with five counts of unlawful entry to buildings, four counts of aggravated unlawful use of a motor vehicle, five counts of damage to property, five counts of stealing and two counts of driving a motor vehicle while unlicensed.

Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Bland said the teen was arrested after a tip-off from the public.

Snr Sgnt Bland also said it was the latest in a string of examples of older vehicles being targeted.

“Strike Force Trident has seen an increase in older model vehicles, particularly Toyotas, becoming targets for thieves and would urge property owners to always keep their vehicles secured to deter opportunistic criminals,” he said.
