Prosecutor chases down escaping prison

A TEENAGER who allegedly ran through the Supreme Court in a last ditch dash to freedom is expected to make a plea this month.

Rickquan Huddleston, 19, was charged with escaping from lawful custody after an alleged escape attempt from the Darwin Supreme Court docks on April 28.

Huddleston allegedly tried to run from the court moments after being sentenced to a term in Darwin Correctional Centre.

Footage allegedly of the Supreme Court incident showed a man ducking away from security guards while being walked to the holding room door.

The footage, which spread rampantly on social media, allegedly showed Huddleston running out the room trailed by guards, members of the public and barristers dressed in their full wigs and robes.

Crown Prosecutor Hamish Riley tackled the man just outside the courtroom doors.

The video footage appeared to show the man limping as he was walked back into the court, his arms pinned behind his back by two security guards.

On Wednesday his legal representative said Huddleston was not able to attend the Darwin Local Court hearing.

“I understand he is in custody, but was not on the AVL (Audio Visual Link) list today,” he said.

“It may be that he is in custody on other matters, this is a summons matter.

He said Huddleston was expected to make a plea, and will appear via a prison video link to Darwin Local Court on July 19.
