Police officer Karol Jarentowski to face Supreme Court for allegedly trying to intimidate DV survivor into silence

A Territory cop who allegedly tried to cover up an assault by intimidating a domestic violence survivor into silence will have his texts revealed in the Supreme Court.
On Wednesday, Karol Adam Jarentowski was committed to face the Supreme Court on a single count of attempting to obstruct or defeat the course of justice.
It is alleged the NT Police officer conspired to pressure the victim of an earlier assault to not give evidence against him in September 28, last year.
The court heard that at the time Mr Jarentowski was suspended, with pay, from the NT Police force amid an investigation into an alleged assault on August 2, 2024.
It was alleged that in August the 39-year-old cop threw a T-shirt at the back of a woman’s head — in violation of an under taking he had made to the court not to harass or behave in a threatening manner towards her.
The court has previously heard that a domestic violence order was issued following the alleged assault.
Less than 60 days after the alleged assault, Mr Jarentowski reportedly breached this order on September 28 and tried to coerce her into not giving evidence.
He was further charged with breaching a domestic violence order and attempting to pervert the course of justice.
Darwin Local Court judge Tanya Fong Lim said only the conspiracy charge would be sent to the Supreme Court, with the breach file to remain in the lower courts.
Prosecutor Kate Thomas told Ms Fong Lim that police had obtained a statement from his alleged victim as well as copies of texts on her phone.
Ms Fong Long said his bail would be continued, and his matter was adjourned to June 18.
