Police have tasered a machete-wielding 15-year-old boy and arrested a 20-year-old man who allegedly handed him the weapon following a large disturbance at Casuarina Square.
An NT Police spokeswoman said officers were called to the shopping centre’s underground carpark shortly before 7pm on Thursday following reports of a disturbance involving up to 50 people.
On arrival, police discovered the crowd had already dispersed but found an injured 16-year-old boy inside a grocery store who was taken to Royal Darwin Hospital for treatment.
While on the scene, the officers saw a man allegedly handing the 15-year-old a machete before the teenager ran towards members of the public while ignoring police commands to stop.
The officers then tasered the boy while a nearby security guard helped apprehend him, with a subsequent search allegedly revealing drugs in his possession before he was taken home to a responsible adult.
The 20-year-old man remained in custody on Friday with charges expected to be laid.
Superintendent Sean Parnell urged anyone with any information to call police on 131 444, quoting reference number 2300007493.
“What we saw yesterday in Casuarina Square was completely unacceptable and thankfully no members of the public were injured,” he said.
Meanwhile, police also arrested three young teenage girls after an alleged crime spree through the same suburb earlier on Thursday.
Detective Senior Sergeant Dale Motter-Barnard said officers received reports the group had entered a service station on Trower Rd where they allegedly threatened an employee with jet lighters at about 12pm.
Sergeant Motter-Barnard the three girls, aged 14, 14 and 13, then allegedly caused damage throughout the store before attempting to assault an employee with a pair of scissors and fleeing the scene.
He said the same group then went to another service station on the same road where they allegedly stole “small items” before again fleeing the scene.
Detectives from Strike Force Trident tracked the group to a nearby carpark where a foot chase ensued and one officer was allegedly assaulted multiple times by one of the girls.
Sergeant Motter-Barnard said the officer did not suffer any serious injuries and all three girls were subsequently arrested.
The two 14-year-olds were charged with multiple counts of aggravated robbery, assaulting police and resisting arrest, while the 13-year-old was charged with aggravated robbery, assaulting police, resisting arrest and property damage.
All three were remanded in custody to appear in court today.
“Investigations into these incidents remain ongoing and we are urging anyone who witnessed the robberies to make contact on 131 444,” Sergeant Motter-Barnard said.

Police continue manhunt for alleged DV offender
Northern Territory police are continuing a hunt to locate a man believed to be involved in a domestic violence incident in the Katherine region.
Sebastian Roddenby, 35, is described as man of Pacific Island heritage about 182cm tall and weighing 90kg.
Officers are urging the public not to approach if they see him but to instead immediately contact them on 131 444 and quote reference number 2300005568.
Police allege the incident happened on Saturday afternoon and Roddenby was last spotted in the Florina Rd area outside Katherine on Sunday morning.
NT police arrest two Palmerston men on child abuse charges
Police have arrested two men and seized multiple electronic devices after allegedly finding them to be in possession of child abuse material.
The Joint Anti-Child Exploitation Team raided separate homes across Palmerston on November 29 seizing the electronic devices as part of an investigation.
Detectives returned to the homes on Wednesday and arrested a 53-year-old man in Bakewell, and a 37-year-old man in Gray.
Police charged the 53-year-old with possessing or controlling child abuse material and accessing child abuse material.
While the 37-year-old has been charged with possessing or controlling child abuse material and four counts of failing to comply with reporting obligations.
Both men were remanded to appear in the Darwin Local Court on Thursday.
Senior Sergeant Wade Jeremiah said police would catch anyone accessing child abuse material.
“Our message to anyone who views, possesses or creates child abuse material is simple, you will be caught,” he said.

Cop car smashed during police response in Nightcliff
An NT Police car has been smashed while cops responded to an incident in Nightcliff overnight.
Northern Watch Commander Steve Rankine said the caged patrol vehicle’s window had been damaged just after midnight.
“The window had a small hole … so they couldn’t have reached in and got anything,” he said.
Sergeant Rankine said no one was injured and did not confirm any arrests.
Woman falls from footbridge on to busy Top End road
A woman has been rushed to hospital after falling from a raised walkway on to a busy Top End road.
Members of the public quickly called triple-0 after the woman fell from the walkway on Trower Rd near the Jingili water gardens about 9.20am Wednesday.
Police arrived at the scene and cordoned off part of the road before taking the woman to Royal Darwin Hospital with non-life threatening injuries for further treatment.
A PFES spokesman said emergency services wanted to thank members of the public for their swift response in helping the woman and contacting triple-0.
Group allegedly carjacks man, 73, in Adelaide River
Five kids and three adults have been arrested after they allegedly threatened a 73-year-old man and stole his car.
An NT Police spokesman said the group allegedly threatened the man with blunt weapons while he was reversing his car in Adelaide River about 1pm Saturday.
The spokesman said the group allegedly stole the Toyota HiLux and drove dangerously along Dorat Rd.
He said the group and car were later stopped in Moulden by Strike Force Strident, the Dog Operations Unit, and general duties members and all were charged with property offences.
The spokesman said one of the adults was due to appear in court on Monday, with the remaining seven individuals bailed to appear at a later date.
Police searching for man after alleged DV incident
Police are calling on the public to help locate a man in relation to a domestic violence incident.
The man in question is Sebastian Roddenby, who is described as being 182cm tall, 90kg, 35 years of age and of Pacific Island heritage.
Police allege the incident occurred on Saturday afternoon near the Katherine area.
Mr Roddenby was last seen in the Florina Road area outside the Top End town in the early hours of Sunday morning.
