Police say they now suspect there was “a person involved” in the disappearance of Angie Fuller after the 30-year-old vanished from the side of the highway near Alice Springs earlier this month.

Ms Fuller has not been seen since “an incident” that occurred on the Tanami Rd about 15km west of the Stuart Hwy on January 9, with investigators releasing more details on Friday.

But NT Police Assistant Commissioner Michael White said detectives still had no suspects in their probe into what sparked the mother-of-two’s sudden disappearance.

“At the time of her last sighting there was an incident involving two vehicles that we believe involved the vehicle that Angie was driving and the other vehicle,” he said.

“We’re continuing to investigate evidence in relation to that incident and see whether they are fully involved with each other but certainly that was the last time she was seen.

“It’s early days, so I can’t go into too much detail, but certainly we’re looking at all avenues in relation to the reason we can’t find her — there’s reports about social media and other reports that suggest that there has been a person involved in this.”

Mr White said an “extensive search of nearly 380sq km” had “not found any sign of her” and none of her bank accounts or social media accounts had been accessed since January 9.

“Certainly from her lack of activity, that’s really concerning because one of the key factors in that is that she has two young children, she’s made no contact with the family, and that’s very unusual for her,” he said.

Mr White said Ms Fuller’s children had been “well cared for” at the time of her disappearance and police continued to liaise closely with her family.

“As you can imagine, it’s a very stressful time for them, we’ve spent a lot of time with her father and the rest of her family, talking about what’s occurred, and you can appreciate the pain that they’re suffering at the moment,” he said.

Mr White said unseasonal rain had increased hopes that Ms Fuller was still alive somewhere out in the desert but investigators were “looking at all avenues possible”

“It’s possible she’s still out there walking around, it’s possible that she’s avoiding us, it’s possible that something untoward happened to her, or she’s just succumbed to the environment that she’s walking in,” he said.

“The search phase of the operation is getting to the point where we’ll have to make a critical decision of whether we suspend it or not, but certainly as the investigation continues, which has been running concurrently, it’s likely that we will shift more to the investigation component.”
