Outback Wrangler Matt Wright has amended his bail over an alleged chopper crash conspiracy

Outback Wrangler star Matt Wright has pushed to speak to two more people by removing them from his lengthy non-contact orders. Read what the celebrity plans to do next to relax his strict bail conditions.

Matt Wright has bail extended

Celebrity croc wrestler Matt Wright has thinned out the herd from his lengthy non-contact bail order as the investigation into Chris ‘Willow’ Wilson’s death continues.

Outback Wrangler star Matthew Wright was able to again amend his bail in Darwin Local Court on Friday, allowing him to contact two Territory cattle graziers who appeared on his reality television shows.

Wright is one of three people charged over an alleged conspiracy to destroy evidence following a fatal chopper crash.

Fellow reality television star and beloved father-of-two Chris ‘Willow’ Wilson was found 40m from the wreck of a Robinson R44 during a crocodile egg collecting mission on the King River on February 28.

Nine months after the remote chopper crash 43-year-old Wright faced court for the first time, charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice, destroying evidence and fabricating evidence relating to the fatal chopper crash.

He was also charged with unlawfully entering a building, unlawfully entering a dwelling and making a false declaration.

Under his $20,000 bail conditions, Wright was initially barred from contacting 50 people, including contacting fellow TV crew members, pilots, major Top End business identities and Mr Wilson’s grieving family members.

On Friday Wright’s lawyer Giles O‘Brien-Hartcher and prosecutors agreed to remove two men from his non-contact order.

Both cattle wrangler James ‘Jim’ Apte and Michael ‘Mick’ Jocobi, who manages a cattle station 112km south of Darwin, appeared on Wright’s reality television series.

In December, Wright also successfully removed his operations manager Tim Johnston and employee Rowan Sutton from the non-contact order.

It is understood Mr Sutton worked at Wright’s Top End Safari Camp and was the owner of Rowdy’s Labour and Operator Hire.

There is no allegation of wrongdoing against Mr Apte, Mr Jocobi, Mr Johnston or Mr Sutton.

Mr O‘Brien-Hartcher said the Territory celebrity intended to ask for more people to be removed from his non-contact bail conditions.

He said once additional documents were handed over from prosecutors, Wright would be in a position to advocate to relax his bail conditions.

“We’ll be able to determine if other people can be removed,” Mr O‘Brien-Hartcher said.

Judge Tanya Fong Lim set a bail hearing for February 8, when the brief of service was due to be submitted.

A preliminary examination mention will be held on March 8 at Darwin Local Court.

The Queensland-based Wright was excused from attending the upcoming hearings, with his bail extended.

Remote Helicopters Australia owner Michael Keith Burbidge and former acting Senior Sergeant Neil Ryan Mellon were also charged in relation to the alleged chopper conspiracy.

Mellon faces a total of 35 charges, including attempting to pervert the course of justice, destroying evidence, making a false declaration, disclosure of confidential information, gaining benefit by unlawfully accessing data and obtaining benefit by deception.

He was also charged with failure to meet firearm storage requirements, possessing a prohibited weapon and fireworks, stealing and possessing a protected animal.

Burbidge was charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice, destroying evidence, making a false declaration and fabricating evidence.
