A Top End resident is at risk of losing their eye after being stabbed with a stick at Stuart Park.

How do juries decide a verdict?

A TOP END resident is at risk of losing their eye after being stabbed with a stick at Stuart Park.

St John Ambulance NT operations manager Craig Garraway confirmed paramedics were called to an “unusual” injury just after midnight.

Mr Garraway told ABC Darwin one person was treated for the serious and “obviously very painful injury”, before being taken to Royal Darwin Hospital.

“I’m sure they’re undergoing a whole lot of extensive treatment overnight and today to try and save that person’s sight,” he said.

Mr Garraway said the Stuart Park incident was one of many call-outs paramedics responded to during a “full on 24-hours across the Territory”.

He said paramedics were part of a six-hour operation to rescue a tourist at the Ormiston Gorge, 130km west of Alice Springs.

Mr Garraway said a 73-year-old woman collapsed around noon on Thursday after suffering a cardiac arrest while on a tour.

“Luckily for that lady the tour guide was an ex-paramedic and was actually carrying a defibrillator,” Mr Garraway said.

Mr Garraway said the quick actions of the tour guide brought her back to a “reasonable state”, with other travellers looking after her as emergency services embarked on their rescue round trip.

“Obviously it took a number of hours for our paramedics and rangers to get in there, and then obviously many hours again to get her out,” he said.

“We we’re looking at rafting her out of the gorge there at one point."

“My understanding is one of our paramedics was injured in that rescue as a result of a fall, but is recovering well at the moment.”

He said the woman was recovering in hospital.

Three police officers allegedly assaulted across two separate incidents by WA border

4PM TUES APR 26: POLICE have condemned continued attacks on emergency responders after three officers were allegedly kicked in the stomach, head and pelted with objects.

Acting Superintendent Peter Dash said three police officers were assaulted across two separate incidents in Moulden and Kiwirrkurra, just across the Western Australian border on Saturday.

One 28-year-old woman was alleged to have attacked two officers in a dramatic arrest in Moulden.

Supt Dash said the officers were called to reports of an altercation at 7.40pm and arrived to find a woman allegedly in breach of a domestic violence order.

Police allege the woman tried to escape during the arrest when the violence began.

It was reported one officer was kicked to the head multiple times, while their partner was cut after being hit in the face by an object thrown by the woman.

He needed medical treatment as a result of the cuts to his face.

She was arrested and charged with two counts of assault police.

In an unrelated incident over the border, a Territory police officer was allegedly attacked while helping Western Australia Police arrest an outstanding offender.

Supt. Dash said a Kintore officer was arresting a 30-year-old man in Kiwirrkurra when he kicked her in the stomach.

He was taken into the custody of WA Police and was expected to be charged with assaulting police.

She did not require further medical assistance.

Territory Duty Superintendent, Acting Superintendent Peter Dash said the continued assault of frontline workers was a concern.

“While the assault of any person is despicable, police will not tolerate assaults upon emergency responders and will ensure the offenders are brought before the courts,” he said.

6AM, TUES APR 26: AN ALLEGED knife-wielding man threatened Anzac Day revellers along Darwin’s party district.

NT Police allege a 57-year-old used a 30cm long knife to threaten patrons at Wisdom Bar, on Mitchell St at 11.20pm, Monday.

CCTV captured the man’s alleged movements around Darwin city.

Police said CCTV showed him walking into Peel St where he allegedly threatened another man sitting in their vehicle before walking to the Kebab Bar.

It was there that police arrested the 57-year-old, where he was allegedly still in possession of a 12-inch bladed knife.

He will appear at Darwin Local Court at a later date.

Woman reportedly chased by armed man in Central Aus

4PM, MON APR 25: POLICE are calling out the trauma ripping through Territory communities as a result of domestic violence.

Senior Sergeant Marcus Becker said the scourge of violence in Tennant Creek homes was “completely reprehensible”.

“The majority of assaults in Tennant Creek are domestic violence related and incidents such as these cause trauma that ripples through families and communities,” Sgt Becker said.

It comes as Northern Territory Police confirmed a 21-year-old man had been arrested for allegedly threatening his partner with an edged weapon.

Police said officers heard reports of a man threatening a woman inside a Tennant Creek home at 12.40am, Saturday.

It was alleged the woman was forced to flee the home, and nearby witnesses intervened to disarm her attacker.

Police alleged this was the second serious domestic assault at the home in just seven days, with another assault allegedly occurring on Saturday April 16.

The 21-year-old was arrested and charged with two counts of sexual intercourse without consent, nine counts of aggravated assault, recklessly endanger serious harm, recklessly endanger life, threats to kill, deprivation of liberty and seven charges of being armed with controlled weapon at night.

‘Depraved’ animal cruelty videos allegedly seized in NT raid

10AM, SAT APR 24: A RAID of a 51-year-old Darwin man’s home has allegedly uncovered “abhorrent” acts of bestiality and animal cruelty.

A Northern Territory Joint Anti-Child Exploitation Team investigation began after an email with a video of animal cruelty surfaced online.

NT Police alleged a raid on a McMinns Lagoon property on Friday uncovered “a significant number of videos depicting animal cruelty and bestiality.”

The joint operation between Territory and Australian Federal Police seized computers, mobile phones, hard drives and digital cameras allegedly containing evidence of animal cruelty.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Jon Beer said the alleged content of the videos was “abhorrent”.

“If members of the public came across this material they would be revolted,” Sgt Beer said.

“It is incomprehensible that an individual could imagine such acts let alone carry them out. “The depravity is deeply disturbing.”

The 51-year-old was charged with 15 counts of aggravated animal cruelty and two counts of bestiality.

He has been remanded in custody to appear in Darwin Local Court on Tuesday April 26.
