A St Mary's NTFL player has been accused of assaulting his former partner.

Police are continuing to investigate allegations a St Mary’s footballer assaulted his former partner.

A police spokeswoman confirmed with this publication on Friday the probe was ongoing.

However, it is unclear if the player has been stood down by the club following questions put to both St Mary’s and peak body AFLNT.

The player is understood to have played for the club during the 2022-23 season.

AFLNT, the governing body of the NTFL, released a statement saying it had been made aware of the allegations.

“AFLNT and the AFL Integrity Unit were made aware of allegations involving an NTFL player this week,” it said.

“The matter was immediately referred to NT Police.

“AFLNT takes these allegations extremely seriously and the police are currently investigating.”

In a statement on its Facebook page, St Mary’s Football Club said allegations had been made against one of its players and it took the reports “extremely seriously”.

“St Mary’s is a supporter of the No More campaign and the committee and football leadership will take appropriate steps to ensure all members of our club behave in a manner aligned to our code of conduct and values,” the club said.

An NT Police spokesman confirmed they were conducting investigations into the allegations.

“Northern Territory Police received a complaint from a 23-year-old woman on Tuesday, allegedly she had been assaulted by her former partner,” he said.

“The matter is currently under investigation by detectives from the Domestic and Family Violence Unit.”

It is understood no charges have been laid.
