An NT Police officer charged with aggravated assault after he allegedly threw “a child’s T-shirt” at a woman’s head has had his case mentioned in court for the first time.
Karol Jarentowski’s lawyer Thelma Gray faced the Darwin Local Court in his place on Monday after the 39-year-old was charged following the incident in Palmerston on August 2.
Ms Gray told the court there was also a domestic violence order travelling with the criminal charge.
“This is a matter where my client allegedly threw a T-shirt, a child’s T-shirt, in the direction of the complainant and it landed on the back of her head,” she said.
“That has given rise to an aggravated assault as well as a (police domestic violence order) which was laid some 21 days after the event.
“Prior to that, there was an undertaking from around May and the throwing the T-shirt in her direction has caused the police to believe that he breached the undertaking.”
Judge Greg Macdonald adjourned the case until October 21 when Mr Jarentowski will again be excused if represented.
An NT Police spokesman previously said the officer had been suspended from duty with pay.
“Due to the case being before the courts, no additional information will be provided at this time,” he said.
