Woman arrested after police called to Covid non-compliant business

SOUVLAKI Grill and Chill owners Michael Tolios and Violet Krishna remain committed to contesting Covid-19 restriction violation charges while they seek legal representation, a court has heard.

Tolios and Krishna again faced the Darwin Local Court on Friday where each stands charged with contravening an emergency declaration for allegedly refusing to shut the doors of the Nightcliff business for noncompliance despite police orders to do so.

On Friday, Tolios told judge Michael Carey the pair was “in the process” of retaining a lawyer to help them fight the charges.

“Well you need to move it,” Mr Cary replied.

“This has been hanging around for a while now.”

Police arrested Krishna in July after allegedly observing three of the store’s staff members working without masks, customers not wearing masks and a lack of any Covid-19 check-in facilities.

Tolios and Krishna will return to court on December 10.
