A man charged with murder after a teenager’s body was found in a Palmerston driveway on Saturday morning has appeared in court for the first time.

Dechlan Wurramarra, 20, appeared in the Darwin Local Court on Tuesday after being taken into police custody on Monday.

It is alleged he murdered an 18-year-old man between midnight and 6.15am on Saturday.

Police were called to the scene outside a Driver residence near the corner of Waterhouse Crescent and Driver Avenue about 6.15am on Saturday after reports of a body in a driveway.

A crime scene was declared and were there for the day, with police remaining in the street on Sunday.

Police, including Major Crime detectives, renewed their calls for information on Sunday, with the investigation into the “suspicious” death still in its “infancy”.

“An initial examination of the deceased identified head trauma and the death was treated as suspicious,” the police statement said.

On Tuesday, Senior Crown Prosecutor Marty Aust sought an extended brief service order of at least 12 weeks due to the “nature of the allegations and the size of the investigation”.

He said the preliminary brief for the matter was already 179 pages long.

He also said there were two alleged co-offenders, one of whom was a youth.

Members of the victim’s family, present in the courtroom, hurled profanity as Wurramarra appeared.

“I hope you rot in hell, c***,” a woman, believed to be the victim’s mother, said.

“You’re a dead dog,” a male seated in the courtroom said as Wurramarra was remanded in custody.

No application for bail was made.

Wurramarra will appear in court on November 14 over other matters, while he will reappear on the murder charge on January 11.
