A one minute long court hearing was the only acknowledgement of a 61-year-old Territory woman’s death after 35 days on life support.
Archie Seccin is accused of brutally assaulting his partner in a Katherine East home on the evening of Friday, October 11.
NT Police said it took 24 hours to deploy a concern for welfare check to the home, where they discovered the woman suffering from serious injuries at 8.25pm on October 12.
It was alleged her 56-year-old partner, Mr Seccin, attacked her, and turned on another man who attempted to intervene and stop the violence.
The woman was airlifted to Royal Darwin Hospital in a critical condition.
She spent 35 days on life support before passing away on Thursday, November 15.
Mr Seccin initially appeared in Darwin Local Court three days after the initial assault, charged with aggravated assault, intending to cause serious harm and breaching a domestic violence order.
On Wednesday, 12 days after her death, Darwin Local Court judge Alan Woodcock was told only that “a murder charge might be laid”.
A homicide charge is not on the court record, and Mr Woodcock adjourned the matter to January 2, 2025.
Mr Seccin will remain in prison on remand until his next court date.
