A ROAD train driver has allegedly tested positive to mid-range drink driving while blocking the Stuart Hwy after attempting a U-turn 20km south of Mataranka about 1.20am this morning.
Acting Senior Sergeant Ian Davies said Mataranka Police had to organise a tow truck to get the road train off the highway because it was blocking the north bound lane.
“It took a little while because we had to call members out and had to get the tow truck but the worst part was he ended up getting done for drink driving,” A/Sen Sgt Davie.
“He will be in court at a later date for mid-range drink driving, he had a BAC 0.083”.
He said it potentially could have been quite a serious situation and could have gone a lot worse.
“We say this all the time there’s just no excuse, just don't do it,” he said.
“It’s bad enough in a car but when people are using heavy vehicles like this it just takes it to a whole another level.
“It’s just incredibly dangerous.”
