A Girraween man has been arrested at his Darwin city workplace and charged with allegedly sending threatening and harassing emails to three Commonwealth politicians.

Australian Federal Police investigators completed a search of the 24-year-old’s workplace and his vehicle on November 26.

An AFP spokesperson said the man’s electronic devices were seized as part of the search and that is where the alleged threatening correspondence was found.

The man was charged with two counts of using a carriage service to make a threat to cause serious harm to a person.

He was also charged with using a carriage service to menace, harass or cause offence and for possessing a controlled drug, namely cannabis.

The AFP said the maximum penalty for these alleged offences – if convicted – is seven years, three years and two years’ imprisonment, respectively.
