A FORMER NT disability carer has been sentenced to jail after he was caught dealing drugs alongside a disabled client he was a caregiver for.

Keinnan Starr-Goodwin, 27, was sentenced to three years after he was found guilty of supplying a commercial quantity of MDMA and also supplying less than a commercial quantity of methamphetamine.

He also pleaded guilty to possessing less than a trafficable quantity of cannabis plant material.

Starr-Goodwin was charged jointly with Cody Barnes, who Starr-Goodwin had served as disability carer for between early 2020 and early 2021.

The Supreme Court of the Northern Territory heard that sometime before June 15, 2021, Starr-Goodwin organised for methamphetamine and MDMA to be sent to Darwin and the drugs were sent to a parcel locker at the Darwin Post Office.

On the same day, NT police went to the mail centre, where screening was conducted under a search warrant, and during that process a parcel addressed to Starr-Goodwin was seized and opened.

Inside the parcel, police found a stuffed toy in a shoebox containing approximately 41 grams of MDMA and 14 grams of methamphetamine.

The parcel locker was registered with details that included a mobile number and email address registered as Starr-Goodwin’s contact details with the Motor Vehicle Registry.

The drugs were removed and the parcel was reconstructed and put into the parcel locker.

On June 21, 2021, Starr-Goodwin organised his co-offender, Barnes, to pick up the parcel.

Barnes entered the parcel locker room and accessed the locker and was arrested after leaving the post office in possession of the parcel.

Starr-Goodwin was seen walking away from the post office after Barnes was arrested.

The extent of Barnes’ involvement was that he collected the package and was reckless as to its contents and was sentenced for that offending on March 25, 2022.

NT police executed a search warrant at a hotel room in Palmerston after hotel staff had told police Starr-Goodwin made a booking.

NT Police found Starr-Goodwin there and arrested him.

When NT police searched the room, they found approximately 0.5 grams of cannabis plant material, a clip-seal bag with about 1 gram of cannabis plant material, various Australia Post receipts, two mobile phones and $23,040 in cash.

Starr-Goodwin agreed to forfeiting the $23,040 located by police to the Crown.

The court heard he had an extensive criminal history that includes three convictions for possession of a dangerous drug, two convictions for possessing drug use implements, eight convictions for possessing property used in the commission of drug offences, two convictions for assault, eight convictions for stealing, and one conviction for possessing a knife in public.

Starr-Goodwin was convicted of all of the offences and was sentenced to an aggregate of imprisonment for three years.

The period of imprisonment was backdated to June 21, 2021 and the period of imprisonment will be suspended after Starr-Goodwin has served 16 months under conditions.
