A 41-year-old woman has survived after being run over by a Toyota Corolla in the Darwin CBD.

Police said a woman lying intoxicated on the corner of Smith Street and Whitfield Street in Darwin City was hit by a vehicle while it was turning the corner about 11.20pm Tuesday.

“A member of the public had stopped their car to try and warn other drivers, but another person turned left out of Whitfield Street onto Smith Street and did not see her on the road,” Watch Commander Sean Patterson said.

“The back left wheel of the driver’s car ran over her head.

“Police and emergency services arrived, she was conscious and taken to hospital for assessment but had no life-threatening injuries.

“She’s going to be ok.”

Commander Patterson said that the vehicle was turning and driving slowly may have been the reason further injury did not occur and the woman was able to survive, despite the impact to her head.

“Looks like the lady was just laying in the road and the person didn’t see them,” he said.

“The (members of the public) stopped at the scene, provided assistance and tested negative for alcohol.”

Although an investigation is under way, no arrests or charges have been made.

In an unrelated incident, police are investigating a ram-raid at the Wulagi shops about 5.25am Wednesday.

A group of juveniles was allegedly inside a stolen car and rammed the roller door at the back of a supermarket.

Investigations are continuing into the number of youths involved, and the extent of the damage to the supermarket.

NT Police said a 19-year-old boy was arrested after multiple security guards were allegedly assaulted at a Darwin shopping centre at 1pm on Friday.

The teenager’s charges and court date have not been confirmed.

Detective Senior Sergeant Karl Day alleged the teenager was with two other males and a female when they started creating a disturbance in the shopping centre food court.

Sergeant Day alleged that when security staff approached the rowdy group, one of the group threatened the guard with an edged weapon.

He alleged another guard had a different edged weapon thrown at him, while another was assaulted with a chair.

Sergeant Day also alleged as the group left the shopping centre they assaulted a liquor store guard before they stole booze.

Police confirmed that none of the security guards had injuries requiring treatment.

“The (alleged) offenders are no longer a danger to the public at the shopping centre,” Sergeant Day said.

Police track stolen car from Palmo to Stuart Park

Police have arrested a man after a high-speed car chase through Palmerston in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Watch Commander Greg Lamb said police received a call at 2.43am about a car seen being driven “erratically” at 15 Mile Camp near Palmerston.

He said police arrived at the house and found a late-model Toyota Prado parked outside.

The vehicle then allegedly pulled out of the driveway and turned right through a red light onto the Stuart Highway.

He said officers recorded the car reaching 160km/h in an 80km/h zone, and initially pursued the vehicle but was called off after less than five minutes.

“We tracked (the vehicle) via CCTV and then we got organised police units from Palmerston and Darwin to attend the Stuart Park area, where the vehicle was sighted coming out of One Mile and heading back to Stuart Park,” Watch Commander Lamb said.

“We observed it go through The Gardens area before it came back out onto the highway.

“They had done a fair bit of damage to the vehicle, so they had to pull over and stop.

“They’ve jumped out of the vehicle and run away.

“Police chased them on foot and managed to catch the driver.”

Commander Lamb said the driver was arrested while the vehicle’s only other passenger fled on foot.

The driver allegedly returned a positive breath-test, and was charged with several offences including dangerous driving.

Watch Commander Lamb said at least five officers worked with CCTV operators to track the vehicle and make an arrest.
