Dashcam footage has captured the moment two utilities collided on the Stuart Highway at Coonawarra on Friday afternoon after one of the vehicles, which was reportedly under police pursuit, failed to give way at an intersection.
Footage of the collision was uploaded to the Stolen Cars in Darwin Facebook group at 3.13pm.
The time stamp on the footage has the collision occurring at 2.37pm Friday, about 40 minutes before the footage was uploaded.
The video depicts a white Toyota utility, which does not appear to be bearing any registration plates, travelling southbound on the Stuart Hwy entering the slip lane onto Amy Johnson Dr at speed.
It failed to give way before collecting the side of another white Toyota utility that had turned right onto Amy Johnson Dr from the Stuart Hwy northbound.
According to the motorist who captured the footage, the offending utility, which they believed to be stolen, flipped after the collision, before a man emerged and was arrested by officers who had been in pursuit.
“[We] noticed a HiLux following us from the lights at the aviation museum, with police following,” the motorist who captured the footage said.
“[We] saw police flashing red and blue behind the ute.
“[The] ute sped up and police stopped red and blue flashing lights, then I had to move to [the] inner lane to avoid it tailgating us. [The] car ended up turning left which resulted in the oncoming traffic getting hit.
“[The driver of the ute that was hit appears shaken but not hurt.”
Images subsequently uploaded online depicted at least one police unit, one ambulance, and two fire engines.
NT Police has been contacted for comment.
