Australia's domestic violence crisis

DETECTIVES are preparing to charge a man with manslaughter over the death of a 41-year-old man in Jingili overnight in what police are calling a “domestic violence incident”.

Detective acting Senior Sergeant Justene Dwyer said it would be alleged the two men knew each other and were “engaged in a physical altercation” between 9pm and 11pm on Wednesday that later led to the man’s death.

She said Major Crime Detectives were called to the scene to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death and a 39-year-old man was arrested at the scene and taken to Palmerston Watch House.

He was remanded in custody and is expected to be charged with manslaughter on Thursday night.

“Domestic violence within the Territory is one of the largest issues faced by police,” Sgt Dwyer said.

“We urge anyone who is experiencing this, to report it to police on 131 444 or in an emergency call Triple triple-0.”
