Bootu Creek case over 2019 death has been adjourned for a further six weeks

The case against Bootu Creek mine operator OM (Manganese) Ltd and its chief operating officer following the 2019 death of a man has been adjourned a further six weeks.

THE case against Bootu Creek mine operator OM (Manganese) Ltd and its chief operating officer, Trevor Cook, has been adjourned a further six weeks to November 24.

Cook and the company have been charged with 38 offences including reckless conduct risking death or injury and failing to comply with health and safety duty after the death of Craig Butler in 2019.

Mr Butler was killed after being buried alive when a section of wall gave way at the remote mine site 130km north of Tennant Creek.

The mine operator faces a combined maximum penalty of $35m in fines while Cook faces a combined maximum of $2.1m in fines and up to five years in prison if found guilty.
