Beachfront Hotel hit by vandals in overnight ram raid and golf club attack

A popular Darwin pub was damaged in an overnight ram raid and vandal attack.
Rapid Creek’s Beachfront Hotel was hit by vandals at about 2.40am Saturday.
This publication nderstands a vehicle was used to drive through the rear gates of the pub not long after closing time.
The gates were open early this morning and one had been forced off its hinges.
Outside in the carpark within the police cordon a number of golf clubs were laid on top of each other in a criss-cross fashion and there were empty alcohol bottles nearby.
It appears the golf clubs may have been used to smash windows inside the beer garden.
Two police and a divisional van were stationed at the scene of the incident pending further investigation.
It’s not clear if anybody was in the hotel at the time of the ram raid.
NT Police northern division watch commander Acting Senior Sergeant Michael Budge said investigations into the incident are ongoing.
It’s understood no arrests have yet been made.
Residents of an apartment block next to the pub said they heard nothing overnight and were only alerted to the incident by the presence of police in the car park.
The premises is licensed between 10am and 2am.
The Beachfront was already carrying the scars of vandalism with two of the full length glass panes at the front of the building boarded over after having been smashed.
The only pub in the Rapid Creek, Nightcliff and Coconut Grove area, the Beachfront is in the process of changing owners.
After 22 years long-time operator Doug Sallis is selling the premises to Endeavour Group, one of Australia’s largest hotel management chains.
Police will also investigate an overnight break-in at the Bamboo Lounge restaurant in Frances Bay Drive Stuart Park.
A passer-by noticed the smashed glass at the restaurant early this morning.
It is not yet clear whether anything was taken from the premises. Police have been contacted for details.
